Goechala trek, also known as the Kanchenjunga Trek, s a popular trekking destination in Sikkim, India. It is considered as one of the most scenic treks in the country and is a must-do for all adventure enthusiasts. The trek is named after the Goechala Pass, which is located at an altitude of 16,200 feet above sea level. Samiti Lake is another big attraction on the Goechala trek. The view of the still waters, and the reflection of Mt Pandim in the lake, especially in the early hours, is a visual treat.


The trek begins from Yuksom, a small town in West Sikkim, and takes you through the Kanchenjunga National Park, where you will witness some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the region. The park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including the rare Himalayan black bear, musk deer, and red panda.


The Goechala trek is a moderate to difficult trek and requires a good level of fitness. The trek is usually completed in 9-10 days, covering a distance of approximately 90 km. The best time to go on the trek is between mid-March to May and October to mid-November.


The trek starts from Yuksom and passes through several small villages like Sachen, Tshoka, and Dzongri. Sachen is a small village located at an altitude of 7,200 feet and is the first stop on the trek. Tshoka is the second stop on the trek, located at an altitude of 9,650 feet. This village is famous for its beautiful rhododendron forests and offers stunning views of the Kanchenjunga range.


Dzongri is the third stop on the trek, located at an altitude of 13,000 feet. It is one of the most scenic spots on the trek and offers panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range. The trek from Tshoka to Dzongri is quite steep and challenging, but the stunning views make it all worth it.


The final destination of the trek is the Goechala Pass, located at an altitude of 16,200 feet. The pass offers stunning views of the Kanchenjunga range and is a photographer's paradise. From here, you can also see the Talung Glacier and the Rathong Glacier.


During the trek, you will stay in tents and guesthouses. The accommodations are basic but comfortable and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The food served during the trek is mostly vegetarian and consists of local cuisine.
